Asian radio broadcasters unite for West London DAB multiplex

Middlesex DAB Ltd has announced plans to apply for the West London DAB multiplex.

The company is a venture between Nation Broadcasting, the UK’s leading independent radio group and the leading London based Asian commercial radio groups – Lyca Media (Lyca Radio & Lyca Gold Radio), Sunrise Radio and Panjab Radio. Also on the team are Subdigital and local community radio service The Beat.

Speaking exclusively to BizAsiaLive.com, Nation’s founder Jason Bryant said, “I couldn’t be happier to have assembled an application that is backed by ourselves and the main West London broadcast players. We have analogue and community licences represented amongst our shareholders. I believe collaboration is key the success of this multiplex, and our application to Ofcom will demonstrate this. As a West London resident, this multiplex is really important to me.”

Surjit Singh Ghuman MBE, founder of Hayes based Panjab Radio said, “Since the year 2000 we have been at the heart of the West London community. I have backed DAB for over twenty years and have seen the positive impact it can have to broaden choice and bring new listeners to radio in general. I look forward to bringing not only more choice to listeners, but an affordable DAB multiplex for smaller and non-profit broadcasters.”

Tony Lit MBE, MD of Sunrise Radio said, “Sunrise has been at the heart of West London since our founding in 1989. We have been on DAB since 2000. We know how important it is to reach communities and to connect people. Middlesex DAB will enable new broadcasters to have access to terrestrial radio for the first time, as well as offering new formats to listeners.”

Raj Baddhan, Lyca Media CEO concluded by saying, “Since Lyca Radio and Lyca Gold launched, we have been very much about the community. We believe that local broadcasters, large and small, working together has got to be in the best interests of listeners and the industry. We aren’t out of town and we aren’t in this for a quick buck. We are all collaborating on this bid because we care for the listener!”
