Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, treated for breast cancer | UK News

Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, has been treated for breast cancer, her spokesman has said.

The 63-year-old duchess was recently diagnosed with an early form of the disease, which was detected at a routine mammogram screening, he added.

In a statement to Sky News, the spokesman said she was “advised she needed to undergo surgery which has taken place successfully”.

“The duchess is receiving the best medical care, and her doctors have told her that the prognosis is good,” the spokesman said.

“She is now recuperating with her family.

“The duchess wants to express her immense gratitude to all the medical staff who have supported her in recent days.

“She is also hugely thankful to the staff involved in the mammogram which identified her illness, which was otherwise symptom free, and believes her experience underlines the importance of regular screening.”

It is understood that on Sunday the duchess left the private King Edward VII’s Hospital in London, which has been treating members of the Royal Family for decades, and is now back home in Windsor.

She recorded an episode of her new podcast, Tea Talk, before she went into hospital, where she talks about her diagnosis. It will be released on Monday.

The duchess has two daughters with her former husband, the Duke of York – Princess Beatrice, 34, and Princess Euegnie, 33.

Beatrice was spotted with friends at Glastonbury on Sunday, the final day of the festival, and was at Royal Ascot earlier this week.
