‘I think he’d be a good addition to that side’

Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor claims that Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher would be a ‘good addition’ to Ange Postecoglou’s new-look Tottenham side this summer.

Agbonlahor strongly believes that the England international is ‘not good enough’ to play regularly for a Blues side that actually finished behind Spurs in the Premier League table last season.

The north London club has emerged as a surprise destination for the 23-year-old this summer, with Postecoglou said to be a big fan of the midfielder’s dynamism and work ethic.

And while Gallagher has been tipped to head to Brighton as part of a Chelsea deal for Moises Caicedo, Agbonlahor can see the Blues man heading to north London instead.

Gallagher, who has two years left on his Stamford Bridge contract, scored three goals and added an assist in 45 games for Chelsea in all competitions last term.

However, with Rodrigo Bentancutr expected to miss the first couple of months of the new campaign, as he continues to recover from a serious knee injury, Gallagher is being viewed as a good fit for Tottenham.

Indeed, Agbonlahor told Football Insider: “I don’t think he’s got the quality to be a regular at Chelsea, with where Chelsea want to be in the table.

“He’s not a midfielder who is good enough to play for a title challenger. He’s not good enough.

“But for Spurs, they’re the eighth-best team in the league – and I think he’d be a good addition to that side.

“He’d probably play week-in, week-out at the moment with Bentancur out injured.”

Chelsea signings to hamper Gallagher progress

Gallagher’s hopes of game time at Chelsea also look sure to be hit by further signings in west London.

The Blues are expected to complete a deal for Caicedo to partner Enzo Fernandez in Mauricio Pochettino’s midfield.

More additions are also expected to follow and could leave Gallagher on the outside looking in, if he’s not part of the Caicedo transfer.

As for Spurs, they are hopeful of trying to land James Maddison from Leicester, which would ultimately see them end their interest in Gallagher.
