Arsenal are reportedly ready to battle north London rivals Tottenham in the race to sign a relegated Leicester City attacker this summer.
Foxes duo James Maddison and Harvey Barnes are both expected to recoup handsome fees for the King Power outfit after the former Premier League champions crashed out of top flight last season.
Indeed, Spurs were recently linked with a rather fanciful £50million bid for the pair, considering Maddison is rated at £60m and the fact that Leicester also want £40m for Barnes.
Recent reports suggest that Maddison is keen on linking up with Harry Kane in north London, but there is little known about Barnes’ preferred destination so far.
And, according to the Daily Mail, Mikel Arteta is looking to get the England winger on board.
The Gunners boss wants more competition up front, especially in the wider areas and sees Barnes as ideal competition for Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka – especially given that he can play on both wings.
While Barnes is valued at around £27m on transfermarkt, Leicester feel that his performances during their troubled campaign warrant a fee closer to £40m.
The attacker, who has one England cap to his name, scored 13 goals in 40 appearances last season.
Arteta wants more depth in Arsenal squad
Arteta feels, that with the club back in the Champions League next season, he needs to add more quality to his squad to compete on multiple fronts.
And the lure of European football could well steer Barnes towards the red half of north London, given Spurs’ failure to reach Europe themselves.
Barnes could also join Kai Havertz in the Arsenal attack next season as the Gunners continue to push for a move for the Chelsea man.
