Tower Hamlets pub fire sees investigation launched

An investigation has been launched after a pub fire in Tower Hamlets damaged the ground floor of a building.

London Fire Brigade was called at 7.37pm on Wednesday (June 14) to the blaze at a pub in Mansell Street with flats above.

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters attended the scene.

Most of an electrical intake room on the ground floor of the building was damaged by fire.

Around 20 people left the pub before firefighters arrived and, once they did, one woman was led to safety from the first floor of the building due to smoke logging in the corridor.

There were no reports of any injuries.

A 20-metre cordon was put in place as a precaution whilst crews worked to make the scene safe.

Crews from Whitechapel, Shadwell, Dowgate and Shoreditch fire stations attended the scene and the fire was under control by 9.57pm.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
