Coronation Street wedding dress is going up for auction in south London

A wedding dress worn by a character on Coronation Street is going up for auction at a ‘sustainable’ wedding fair in Sydenham.

South London Hospice St Christopher’s is holding its first-ever wedding fair, for people to buy pre-loved gowns for their big day.

Hosted at the hospice’s Education Centre in Sydenham, St Christopher’s Sustainable Wedding Fair will take place over the weekend beginning July 1 and will include an opportunity to bid for a dress worn on the world’s longest-running soap – Coronation Street.

The mermaid-style sleeveless dress was worn by the character Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) during her dramatic wedding day episode which aired in March. In the episode Daisy is the target of an acid attack on her wedding day, the dress up for auction was one of three used during filming.

It has been donated by a friend of the hospice and will be up for auction at the event.

The elegant floor-length gown comes with a signed photograph of Charlotte wearing the dress and a certificate of authenticity.

The majority of the other wide range of other gowns on sale at the event were donated by a local wedding dress shop which was closing down. They donated over 50 stunning new dresses, along with other wedding outfits and accessories.

The money raised on the day will go towards the hospice.

The ‘dramatic’ scene took three weeks to film (ITV Corrie).

On the day, there will be local wedding suppliers and partners, including florists, wedding décor specialists, jewellers, photographers, beauticians and entertainment specialists. There’ll also be a prosecco bar and the chance to meet and discuss with a local registrar to find out more details about wedding ceremonies

A spokeswoman for Coronation Street said: “Daisy’s dress is beautiful, the episode was so dramatic that we had to make a number of dresses for Charlotte to wear across the three weeks it took to film the scenes. We are delighted that one of those dresses is now going to raise much-needed funds for St Christopher’s Hospice.”

Ginger Bujdoso, Head of Retail at St Christopher’s, said: “This is our first ever Sustainable Wedding Fair and our aim is to bring together local businesses, supporting the local community the same way as they’ve always supported St Christopher’s.

“Sustainability is so important for St Christopher’s and we’re excited to show people our range of dresses and attire, both pre-loved and brand new,” he said.

Speaking at the time the Coronation Street wedding storyline aired, actress Charlotte Jordan told The Express: “The wedding dress had to be “Daisyfied” but it also had to be practical for what the purpose was for it.

“There was going to be a lot of physicality down the line. So, it couldn’t have been this massive heavy ball gown.

She added: “Initially, it was strapless and I felt we had to add some security to the top of it so that when she’s running around later I’m protected.”

Tickets to St Christopher’s Sustainable Wedding Fair cost £5 (+ booking fee.)
