The Cheapest European Capitals for a City Break

The cost of living being what it is, you might think a holiday is off the cards this year. But Europe’s best city breaks needn’t break the bank – as proven by the financial experts at Gambling ‘N Go, who have studied all of Europe’s capitals to find the ten cheapest European city breaks.

To come up with the list, they calculated the price of flights from any London airport, together with a night’s stay in a hotel and a three-course meal for two at a mid-range restaurant.

Their analysis revealed Poland’s Warsaw to be the most affordable European capital for a city break, with a total cost of £161.67 (€184). If the city’s famous Polish eateries and rich history sound like your cup of tea, you might want to start looking into booking a trip.

The runner-up was Spain’s beloved capital Madrid, which this year is paying tribute to artistic titan Picasso with a festival of exhibitions and events across the city. With its elegant boulevards, lush parks, and museums full of European art, Madrid is sure to conquer your heart with a total price tag of £184.80 (€210).

The third place on the list went to Sofia, Bulgaria, with flights, food and a hotel stay coming to £200.58 (€228). The city is a hub of excellent architecture featuring onion-domed churches, Ottoman Empire mosques, mountain vistas, and more.
