South Norwood: man taken to hospital after New Year’s Day attack

A man has been left with “life changing” injuries after a stabbing in South Norwood during the early hours of this morning.

Police were called to Portland Road at 1.21am this morning (January 1) following reports of a stabbing.

Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance.

A 40-year-old man was found with stab wounds and was taken to a south London hospital.

His injuries have been assessed as non-life threatening but potentially life changing.

At 9am today, a 38-year-old man was arrested elsewhere in Portland Road on suspicion of GBH.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “At 1.21am on Sunday, 1 January police were called to Portland Road, SE25 following reports of a stabbing.

“Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance.

“A 40-year-old man was found with stab wounds and was taken to a south London hospital. His injuries have been assessed as non-life threatening but potentially life changing.

“At around 9am, a 38-year-old man was arrested elsewhere in Portland Road on suspicion of GBH assault.”
