Charlton Athletic do have the option of recalling Alex Gilbey from his loan stay at Stevenage next month.
The Addicks inserted the clause when the 28-year-old midfielder moved to the League Two outfit at the start of September.
Gilbey had been told that he was free to move on with Ben Garner making it clear the player did not fit into his plans.
But Addicks owner Thomas Sandgaard sacked Garner on Monday and the process has started to find a replacement.
Gilbey is due to be a free agent next summer.
The former Milton Keynes man has scored two goals and also collected two assists in 14 league matches for Stevenage.
Gilbey’s only appearance for Charlton this season before his departure was the 1-1 EFL Cup draw against QPR in August.
