Frank McAvennie has backed Josko Gvardiol to join Tottenham next year.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker claimed that Ivan Perisic could help Antonio Conte to convince Gvardiol to move to London.
According to Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb (28 November), the Spurs boss is hopeful Perisic will be able to encourage his Croatian teammate of a move to the Lilywhites.
Perisic is said to be actively trying to convince the RB Leipzig defender, who has also been linked with a move to Chelsea, to join him in north London.
A Spurs source has told Football Insider on Sunday (4 December) that Gvardiol is a firm target of the club going into next year, and Conte is a “huge” admirer.
Gvardiol, 20, still has over four years left on his Leipzig deal after joining from Dinamo Zagreb last summer.
Perisic, 33, joined Spurs in the summer from Inter Milan.
When asked if a familiar face at a new club can be a big draw, McAvennie told Football Insider: “Of course it is.
“Coming to London from another country, it is good to have somebody there that you can bounce off. I think it is great to help settle in, however good a player you are. And the word is that Gvardiol is phenomenal.
“It does help. They have got to have somebody that can show you the ropes, that can be a good pull.
“If somebody goes to Tottenham it is because of Conte, not for anything else because they are not going to win anything.
“Having somebody at the club that you know, if you were swithering on it that would pull it.“
