Two teenagers have been jailed for their brazen attempt to steal a BMW motorbike belonging to a judge from court grounds.
Shay Hollis, 18, and Deon-Dre Rogers-Barrett, 19, both of Enfield in North London, were sentenced in the Wood Green Crown Court today.
The audacious incident took place on April 16, 2021, when the two young men, along with an unidentified suspect, rode into the grounds of Snaresbrook Crown Court on two mopeds.
There, they found a BMW R 1250GS Adventure TE Rallye worth £15,000, and set to work trying to steal it – unaware it belonged to a judge inside the courthouse.
One of the men threatened security who attempted to stop them with a machete, but the plan was foiled when the guards shut the court gates – effectively trapping them inside the grounds.
The trio dumped the bike and abandoned their own mopeds, scaling the fence and fleeing the scene on foot.

The entire incident was captured on CCTV, and police were able to forensically examine the mopeds to help track Rogers-Barrett and Hollis down.
One of the mopeds was also registered and insured to Rogers-Barrett, who called police 90 minutes after the attempted robbery to falsely report it stolen.
He told police he was robbed at knifepoint of the moped and his mobile phone. The same phone was found at his home at the time of his arrest.
Rogers-Barrett was sentenced to 21 months’ jail suspended for 18 months, and ordered to complete 25 days rehabilitation.
He will be subjected to a three month curfew, which will be monitored by an electronic tag, and must pay £500 compensation to the victim. The 19-year-old pleaded guilty to robbery.

His accomplice, Hollis, was handed an 18 month supervision order and must carry out 12 hours of volunteer work. He, too, will pay £500 compensation to the victim.
Hollis earlier pleaded guilty to robbery, criminal damage, threatening a person in a public place with an offensive weapon and affray.
Both young men were arrested on 27 May 2021.
Rogers-Barrett denied knowing Hollis in his initial police interview, but officers from Met Police’s Operation Venice were able to find photos of the 18-year-old on his phone.
Distinctive clothing worn by Hollis during the offence and seen on CCTV was found at his home.

PC Ian Croxford, from the Met’s Operation Venice, said: ‘They were intent on stealing a valuable motorcycle in an attempt that can only be described as brazen and audacious. To ride into the grounds of a Crown Court and try this shows a flagrant disregard for the law.
‘That the brave security staff who challenged them were threatened with a machete shows they were not afraid to use violence to get what they wanted.
‘This should serve as a warning to anyone concerned in serious criminality that we will investigate and will use every tool at our disposal to bring you to justice.’
A third suspect has not been identified.
