Johnnie Jackson has admitted it was disappointing he could not select Kyle Hudlin in the matchday squad for AFC Wimbledon’s FA Cup second-round defeat to Chesterfield.
Hudlin’s parent club Huddersfield blocked the forward from playing in the competition, so he was also unavailable for the previous tie against National League South side Weymouth.
The 22-year-old is on a season-long loan from the Championship side.
The Dons were knocked out of the FA Cup on Saturday following a 2-0 defeat to Paul Cook’s National League high-flyers.
Wimbledon only registered one shot on target during the 90 minutes, with Jackson unable to bring on a senior striker to change the game.
Hudlin scored 13 goals in 57 appearances in the National League for Solihull Moors.
He scored the only goal of the game in Wimbledon’s 1-0 victory over Sutton United in the EFL Trophy in midweek.
There is a January recall clause in Huldin’s loan deal.
When asked if it was disappointing that Hudlin was not available for selection on Saturday, Jackson said: “Yeah, it is.
“It was Huddersfield’s call. We asked for permission for him to play in the FA Cup, but it wasn’t granted, so we have to respect that.
“But it does affect the changes that you’re making. When you’re looking at the game and the type of game it was today, you’re bringing a Hudlin on.
“He had a good game in the week and he has been affecting games, so it left us light on the bench – we know that.
“That gives us things to look at moving forward. If and when we’re looking to add to our squad in January, when you’re looking to make changes to impact the game, it’s something to consider.”
