According to the Telegraph, the England star has been in discussions over a new deal since the summer – though there is yet to be a significant breakthrough.

With his current contract expiring at the end of next season, it’s expected that further talks will take place over the coming months.

Should they be unsuccessful in their attempts to convince Mount to stay at the club, Todd Boehly and his staff have already drafted up a shortlist of replacements.

Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini and Villarreal winger Yéremy Pino are two names that have been mooted to join the club should Mount choose to see out his deal.

Mount has been a long-standing member of the Chelsea first team, having come through the academy, and has now become a main feature of Graham Potter’s side.

The midfielder has made an appearance in every single game of Potter’s tenure in west London and has helped contribute two goals and two assists in the league.

The 23-year-old is nearing the end of his five-year deal signed in 2019, when he returned from his successful loan spell with Championship side Derby.
