Man wanted over double stabbing found dead in east London canal

murder suspect wanted by police over a double stabbing in which a woman died and her daughter was injured has been found dead in an east London canal.

Yolanda Saldana Feliz, 53, and her 30-year-old daughter Lauris were attacked by a knifeman at a flat in Windmill Lane, Stratford, in the early hours of Sunday, October 23.

Police launched a public appeal to find Miguel Angel Alvarez Florentino, 38, who was said to be known to both women.

Officers found the body of a male in the vicinity of City Mill Lock, off Blaker Road in Newham, about 7.30am on Friday.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “The death is being treated as unexpected, but is not believed to be suspicious. While formal identification is yet to take place, officers are confident it is the body of Miguel Angel Alvarez Florentino.”

A post-mortem gave Yolanda’s cause of death as stab wounds. Lauris was hospitalised with non life-threatening injuries. Florentino was wanted in connection with murder and attempted murder.

Yolanda’s family has been made aware of the development and continue to be supported by the Met’s Specialist Crime Command. Detective Inspector Aytac Necati said: “Our thoughts very much remain with Yolanda’s family and friends.”

Chief Superintendent Simon Crick, responsible for policing in Newham, added: “I remain shocked and saddened by this incident. I know this has caused a great deal of concern for the community.”

Inquests will be held at a later date.
