£27m star tipped for internal agreement at the Emirates

Arsenal star William Saliba ‘will stay’ at the Emirates Stadium thanks to the potential to develop under boss Mikel Arteta, according to journalist Robin Bairner.

The central defender returned to north London during the summer, having spent last season on loan with Ligue 1 giants Marseille, and he has made a big impact.

What’s the latest news involving Saliba?

According to The Athletic, Arsenal have entered formal negotiations with Saliba and put a new contract on the table.

The report suggests an agreement has not been reached so far, but talks will continue as the Gunners are hoping to tie the seven-cap France international down to fresh terms after gaining extensive interest.

It is a major development after Saliba revealed, following a north London derby win over Tottenham Hotspur last month, that initial talks over a new deal were ongoing.

Arsenal are keen to see the 21-year-old sign on the dotted line ahead of the January transfer window as he will enter the final 18 months of his current contract, which is worth £40,000-per-week, at the turn of the year.

However, the capital club also hold an option to extend the agreement by a further year, potentially keeping Saliba on board until the summer of 2025.

What has Robin Bairner said about Saliba?

Bairner believes Saliba will commit his future to Arsenal by signing a new contract and not mull over whether he should move onto pastures new.

The French football journalist feels the centre-half will be confident of taking his game to the next level by remaining with the Gunners.

Bairner told GIVEMESPORT: “I think he will stay at Arsenal. I don’t have any information to suggest otherwise.

“He’s performed well there and I think he can see himself growing there over the course of the next three or four years.”

Should tying Saliba down to a new contract be a priority?

Arsenal have made a flying start to the season and currently sit top of the Premier League, but that may not have been possible without Saliba.

He has started every top flight fixture since the campaign got underway and even popped up with goals against Bournemouth and Brentford to underline his threat in the opposition’s penalty area.

It is an incredible turnaround considering Saliba went into the 2022/23 season still searching for his Arsenal debut despite joining from Saint-Etienne in a £27million deal three years ago.

The defender’s form has been so impressive that he should be heading to the World Cup to represent France in a matter of weeks, so the Gunners ought to look to reach an agreement over fresh terms before he gets the opportunity to gain even more attention from other clubs.
