Colossal Liverpool transfer under threat as Tottenham backed to usurp Klopp and land star first

A Tottenham pundit has made an eye-catching claim about a Borussia Dortmund star rejecting Liverpool and joining Antonio Conte’s side instead, as Spurs ‘have the money to do it’.

Liverpool have a couple of Dortmund players in their sights. The first is Jude Bellingham, who has been earmarked as the player to solve Jurgen Klopp’s midfield problems.

At 19 years of age, Bellingham would revitalise Liverpool’s ageing midfield. Jordan Henderson and Thiago are both the wrong side of 30 and could do with a younger team-mate arriving on Merseyside.

Liverpool have recently set their sights on fellow Dortmund ace Youssoufa Moukoko, too.

He is refusing to sign a new contract at Dortmund. And with his current deal expiring at the end of the season, the centre-forward could sort out a pre-contract agreement with Liverpool in January.

Football Insider provided an update on Moukoko’s situation on Friday. They claim he is preparing to join the England-based football agency Unique Sports Management when he returns 18 next month. And this will move the Germany U21 international closer to a Liverpool switch.

Tottenham insider John Wenham believes the North London outfit will frustrate Klopp by spoiling his double Dortmund delight. Wenham reckons Tottenham could get to Bellingham’s signature first.

He thinks Spurs have enough money to sign the Englishman in a deal which could probably be worth £150million.

One factor Spurs could use to convince Bellingham on the move is to say he can join Real Madrid after a few years of shining at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham urged to ‘call up Dortmund’

“Jude Bellingham, let’s call up Dortmund. And don’t forget we have beaten Dortmund in the last times we have played them,” Wenham said during an interview with Football Insider.

“If we called up Dortmund and said we would offer them the £150m and we told Bellingham that he could be the star man for us, in a couple of years he might be captain, that sort of thing, get in his ear.

“Tell him to come down, come and play in London and if he wants to move to Real Madrid in a few years’ time, fine, we won’t stop you.

“Where is the ambition to make those signings that would really elevate us as a club? We have the money to do it as well.

“I don’t think Bellingham is unrealistic. When you have our stadium, when you play in London, when you finish in the top four, I don’t think it is unrealistic to ask those questions.

Jude Bellingham capture would ‘show ambition’

“If the answer is no you have still asked the question, fair enough. I want us to show ambition.”

Bellingham would be a monumental signing for Spurs. He is being courted by Europe’s largest teams so Spurs getting to him first would be a real coup.

Conte’s side are in the Champions League and are in a good position to qualify for the competition for next year, too. This would help in the prospective Bellingham negotiations.

However, the key factor Bellingham will be considering is whether he can win trophies at his next club. Liverpool and Real will both be able to point to their huge trophy cabinets from recent years.

Spurs, though, haven’t lifted any silverware since 2008. This could prove to be a massive stumbling block when trying to convince Bellingham to join.

It is far more likely he will link up with either Liverpool, City or Real when securing a Dortmund exit.

Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp has given the clearest indication yet on what the future holds for Liverpool loanee Arthur Melo.
