Tottenham could be ‘big appeal’ for £60m star at Hotspur Way

Tottenham Hotspur have Leicester City midfielder James Maddison ‘on their radar’ and could secure a boost in their pursuit by qualifying for the Champions League, according to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs.

Fabio Paratici oversaw a summer spend of more than £150 million as Antonio Conte bolstered his squad in north London but further investment could just around the corner.

What is the latest on Maddison?

Spurs were understood to be ‘seriously considering’ a move for Maddison following the end of the 2021-22 campaign.

They were not alone in their interest, however, as Newcastle United pushed hard for his services, seeing a £50 million bid rejected by the Foxes, who were demanding £60 million.

The Magpies are seemingly not giving up, however, and are plotting to make another move in January, according to Football Insider.

With Maddison now into the final two years of his £110,000 per-week contract at the King Power, the report adds that the North East side are hopeful his price may have fallen since the summer.

What has Jacobs said on Tottenham’s pursuit?

Jacobs understands that the attacking midfielder remains on the north Londoners’ transfer radar ahead of January.

The reporter adds that there will be more clubs than Spurs and Newcastle plotting moves for him, however, as he continues to impress this term.

Jacobs told GIVEMESPORT: “Tottenham have had Maddison on their radar as well and, come next summer, they might be the kind of club, if they get back-to-back seasons of Champions League football, that’s a big appeal to James Maddison. But there’s far more than just those two, as you would expect given his current form. There’s lots of clubs in the Premier League in particular really looking very seriously at James Maddison because he’s proving week on week what he can offer to a top club.”

Do Tottenham need Maddison?

It was reported in the summer that Conte was eager to add a creative presence to his midfield unit, only for the club to fail in that goal.

Still, Tottenham are not exactly struggling for goals this season, having found the net 23 times in 11 games, a total only bettered by Arsenal and Manchester City.

But having fallen to defeats against Newcastle, Manchester United, and the Gunners, it shows they are perhaps lacking that cutting edge on the big occasion.

Maddison has already scored six goals this season, taking his Premier League tally to 39 strikes in 143 games. He could well be the man to solve a problem at Tottenham.
