Murder investigation launched after man found dead in Tower Hamlets flat

A murder investigation has been launched after a man was found dead in a flat in Tower Hamlets.

The Met Police were called by a concerned member of the public at just before 12.20am today (October 19) to a property in Kirton Gardens, where they found a 47-year-old man dead.

He has not yet been formally identified and officers are “working hard” to trace the man’s next-of-kin, Scotland Yard said.

A postmortem will be held in due course, and a murder investigation has been launched.

Det Ch Insp Neil John, who heads up the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, said: “The investigation is in its very early stages.

“We are working hard to find out exactly what happened and who is responsible for his death. Officers will remain at the scene and I would ask anyone with information – no matter how small that detail might be – to contact us immediately.”

He particularly asked for any drivers with dash-cam footage from the Kirton Gardens and Chambord Street area between 4.30pm and 5.30pm on October 15 to get in touch.

“Understandably, violent incidents like this can make the community and Londoners feel frightened and worried,” he continued. “My team is focused on finding those who harm others and taking them to court so they can answer for their crimes.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 or independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The crime reference is reference 145/19OCT.
