Two highly-rated Tottenham starlets swap north London for south coast after Southampton move

Highly-rated Tottenham youngsters Jayden Meghoma and Sam Amo-Ameyaw have reportedly left the club for Premier League rivals Southampton.

The Athletic states that the two 16-year-olds have swapped north London for the south coast, with Spurs set to receive a combined £1million in compensation.

Meghoma can play at centre-back or as a left-back while Amo-Ameyaw is a winger capable of playing both sides.

Both players have featured for Tottenham’s Under-18s, with Amo-Ameyaw also featuring for Spurs in Premier League 2.

With both players yet to turn 17, neither can sign a professional contract. That means they have moved to Saints on an initial scholarship deal.

The Athletic states that Southampton actually signed Amo-Ameyaw last week while they have now also concluded a deal for Meghoma.

Neither player is expected to feature in Ralph Hasenhuttl’s first-team set-up for the time being. However, the Saints hierarchy have high hopes that they will eventually do so.

Hasenhuttl on the brink

But whether they will end up playing under Hasenhuttl remains to be seen.

Southampton are reportedly weighing up the ideal time to sack the Austrian, with a bombshell report claiming a new manager is ‘imminent’.

The 55-year-old is the Premier League’s fourth-longest serving manager at present. Only Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Frank have been in their positions longer.

However, Southampton currently sit 16th in the table, having lost five of their opening eight matches.

Their form at the back end of last season is also cited, with Saints losing nine of 12 to finish the last campaign in poor fashion.
