Elizabeth Line to open at Bond Street station in October – South London News

Bond Street’s “spectacular” Elizabeth Line station is finally set to open in October following delays early in the construction process, Transport for London (TfL) has confirmed.

From Monday, October 24, passengers will be able to make use of two new ticket halls, step-free access from street to platform and two new entrances in Davies Street and at Hanover Square in the heart of the West End.

The opening of the Bond Street Elizabeth Line station will come less than two weeks before the eastern and western sections of the Elizabeth Line are connected to the central tunnels on November 6, allowing direct journeys between central London and Heathrow Airport.

Outgoing TfL Commissioner Andy Byford said Bond Street station will be the “jewel in the crown of the West End’s transport provision”, with it expected to accommodate about 140,000 passengers per day.

Mr Byford said: “The new Elizabeth Line station at Bond Street is truly spectacular and will provide a highly significant new link to one of the busiest shopping districts in the UK, enabling even further connectivity to jobs and leisure for people across London and the South East.

“I can’t wait to see people using this beautiful, spacious-step-free station. It will be yet another huge moment for transport in London and the bright future for city that lies ahead.”

The opening of the Bond Street Elizabeth Line station will be the final achievement for Mr Byford as TfL Commissioner, having announced last week that he would be stepping down from the role at the end of October.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said the new station at Bond Street is a “stunning addition” to the Elizabeth Line that will “give Londoners and tourists quick and direct access to the heart of London’s West End”.

Mr Khan said: “Millions have already travelled on the Elizabeth line, and the opening of a station at Bond Street will help draw people back on to our world-class public transport network, encourage people to make the most of the capital and support businesses across the city.

“It will also provide a new link to one of the busiest shopping districts in Europe as retailers anticipate the ‘golden quarter’ ahead of the festive period.”
