It was not long ago that Hugh Laurie’s burgeoning beard, below, suggested he had landed a role as some wild tribal chief.
But as he manoeuvred his rental electric bike around London last week, left, I was glad to see the multi-Golden Globe winner once more presenting a clean-shaven face to the world.
But did the 63-year-old Old Etonian get himself lost? At one point onlookers saw him paused at traffic lights, above, consulting his mobile phone – a perfectly legal if not recommended action.

Hugh, who lives in North London with wife Jo, was still dicing with danger though as he declined to wear a helmet on his outing through the city streets during busy school run time.
Laurie, best known for starring in US medical drama House, is more keen on motorbikes than pedal bikes – and once joked about the joy of feeling the wind on his bald spot!
Members of Radio H-P – the posh Gumtree-style website on which the super-rich advertise for butlers and to sell their yachts – have fallen victim to a cyber attack. The hacker managed to infiltrate the organisation’s email system and tried to get access to passwords.
Once Radio H-P – founded in 2015 by Nigel Haddon-Paton, a former truffle entrepreneur and ‘Fulham’s answer to Mark Zuckerberg’ – discovered the scam, it sent out a genuine email warning to members, describing the issue as ‘most tiresome’.
