Bromley comfortable winners as they dispatch Maidstone United at Hayes Lane – South London News

Bromley defeated Maidstone United 3-0 at Hayes Lane on Saturday afternoon and are seventh in the National League.

The South London club started well and took the lead after 15 minutes when Omar Sowunmi (pictured below) scrambled home from a corner.

Five minutes later Harry Forster attempted a volley from distance but it just looped over the bar – in what would have been a spectacular strike.

It could have been 2-0 midway through the second-half when strikes from Callum Reynolds, Michael Cheek and Reece Hannam were all blocked from close range.

The resulting corner was met by Byron Webster, whose effort was once again blocked by the Maidstone backline.

But two minutes before half-time the lead was doubled when Adam Marriott buried his strike into the bottom corner.

The victory was made even more comfortable when Marriott scored his second and Bromley’s third.

Marriott was so close to his hat-trick when he was put through on goal only to bend his strike wide of the post.

The goalscorer nearly turned provider when his cross was blazed over the bar by the incoming Corey Whitely as the Ravens eyed a fourth.

Bromley extended their unbeaten home record for the 2022-23 campaign and next up for Andy Woodman’s side is another home fixture against Oldham Athletic.
