£42m star considered ‘Pedro Neto alternative’ at the Emirates

Arsenal have alternatives lined up if they are unable to strike a deal for Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Pedro Neto, including Yeremy Pino, according to Ryan Taylor of The Express.

Mikel Arteta has overseen a busy summer of business at the Emirates but can still add to his squad ahead of Thursday’s deadline.

What is the latest on Arsenal’s winger search?

According to The Athletic, Neto has emerged as Arsenal’s top target in the wake of Nicolas Pepe’s departure to Nice.

The report states that talks with the player’s agent Jorge Mendes have taken place for more than a month now with Arteta seemingly eager to bolster his wide options ahead of the deadline.

Arsenal are understood to want to seal a deal for the 22-year-old for £35 million, whereas they are asking for closer to £50 million at Molineux.

Another name to be linked with the Gunners is exciting Villarreal youngster Pino.

Arsenal, along with Liverpool, are interested in signing the 19-year-old, according to Spanish outlet AS, with the Yellow Submarine willing to do a deal in order to ease their financial problems.

However, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has warned it will likely cost around £42 million to land the talented Spaniard this summer.

What has Taylor said on the situation?

Taylor understands that Pino is one of a few options being considered if Arsenal are unable to complete the signing of Neto before the deadline.

But the journalist adds that the Gunners want to make sure that whoever they are signing fits the profile desired by the north London club.

Taylor told GIVEMESPORT: “So with Pino, he is one of a few. From what I understand, there are alternatives that Arsenal would be willing to go for if they can’t get Neto. But they don’t want to just sign someone for the sake of it. It has to be a player that is genuinely going to improve their squad and also someone who fits their transfer policy.”

Do Arsenal need a new winger?

After Pepe departed for Nice on a season-long loan, Arteta’s desire to add a new winger to his squad has likely only grown stronger.

Striker Gabriel Jesus and midfielder Fabio Vieira are among those to arrive to add more strength to the final third but a player capable of covering for Bukayo Saka on the right wing would not go amiss.

Emile Smith Rowe and Gabriel Martinelli are capable of interchanging on the left but Saka does not currently have a specialised teammate to swap with when needed.
