Sports reporter leaves Newsquest role to join Daily Mail

A regional sports reporter has left his role with two sister titles to take up a job with a national newspaper.

Henry Tomlinson has announced his departure from Newsquest to join the Daily Mail’s sports reporting team.

Henry, pictured, has worked in both news and sport for Brighton daily The Argus and South-East London’s News Shopper series since March last year.

Football teams he has covered include Brighton & Hove Albion, as well as London clubs Charlton Athletic, Crystal Palace and Millwall.

Speaking to HTFP, he said: “I really enjoyed my time at Newsquest. I really got a taste of it everything news reporting has to offer.

“I was covering issues, breaking news and events in Sussex, which involved having knives thrown at me at a Zippos Circus and walking the streets of Brighton during the chaos that erupted after England’s wins in the Euros, it was surreal at times.

“The teams at The Argus and News Shopper were always there for each other when needed, and it was great to be a part of that.

“However, I always had my eye on a role on the sports desk, and once I got the opportunity, I couldn’t pass it up.

“I loved being able to cover Brighton & Hove Albion and then clubs in south London for News Shopper, such as Crystal Palace, Charlton and Millwall.

“It was an excellent opportunity for me to become a full-time sports reporter, which as someone who loves sports but was never good enough to go professional at any of them, is pretty much the next best thing.

“But it was the right time to move on, and the chance to regularly contribute to the sports section of a national paper such as the Mail Online is something that really excites me.”
