AFC Wimbledon wantaway midfielder seals Bristol Rovers move – South London News

AFC Wimbledon midfielder Luke McCormick has sealed his return to Bristol Rovers.

The former Chelsea youngster, 23, has signed a three-year contract with the Gas and joins for an undisclosed fee.

McCormick was determined to quit the Dons following their relegation to League Two and has not featured for them since the campaign started.

He previously had a successful season-long loan spell with Rovers while he was still on the Blues books.

McCormick was the top earner on Wimbledon’s books and the South London club will now move to replace him.

He said: “I’m delighted to be back. My time here was personally a brilliant one that ended in disaster. Obviously not being able to play in front of the fans and then being relegated. To be back during the spot the club is in and where the gaffer, his staff and the players have put the club in is immense and I’m excited to be a part of that and really kick on and show the love back to the fans.”

Gas boss Joey Barton added: “There were few positives to come out of my first few months at Rovers and the relegation into League Two, but without doubt Luke McCormick was one.

“His effort and ability were clear to see when throughout that period he gave everything for our course in a tough time. I’m delighted to be able to bring him back to Rovers permanently. We are keen to sign good people and good players and he is both. He will be a superb addition to our group.”

AFC Wimbledon issued a curt 49-word statement: “We can confirm that an agreement has been reached with Bristol Rovers for the permanent transfer of Luke McCormick. The midfielder played a part in 47 games for the Dons, scoring eight goals, and now departs for an undisclosed fee. We wish Luke all the best for the future.”
