On This Day: Antonio sets Hammers history in Leicester City rout

Michail Antonio made West Ham United history on this day in 2021.

In front of a returning capacity crowd at London Stadium, the attacker wrote his name into Hammers folklore by netting twice in the second half against Leicester City, breaking the Club’s all-time Premier League scoring record.

Antonio’s special finishes came on a celebratory night in east London as 60,000 supporters returned home for the first time in 541 days.

It was the perfect evening for West Ham United supporters as Pablo Fornals sent wild by opening the scoring midway through the first half, before Saïd Benrahma added a second after Ayoze Pérez had been sent-off.

Youri Tielemans pulled one back for the Foxes but Antonio’s big, record-breaking moment arrived in trademark style. His first saw the No9 control Rice’s low ball in, hold off a challenge and fire a low shot past Kasper Schmeichel, before celebrating as only he could by holding a cardboard cut-out of himself high above his head!

There was still time for the forward to grab his second of the night, controlling Vladimir Coufal’s ball before prodding into the corner to send West Ham top of the Premier League!
