London primary school evacuated over ‘chemical leak’ – paramedics treat multiple patients | UK | News

Ambulance, police and fire crews were sent to Princess May Primary School in Stoke Newington this morning (Friday) following reports. People affected were being assessed by paramedics with several coming down with headaches, while thirty people had been evacuated from the building.

Emergency responders were first called just after 11.20am this morning (Friday), prompting a wide range of resources to be sent to the school on Barretts Grove.

Footage from the scene shows at least three ambulances, two fire engines and three police cars attending.

In a statement, a London Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 11.23am today (19 August) to reports of an incident at Princess May Primary School, Hackney.

“We sent a number of resources to the scene, including two ambulance crews, a medic in a fast response car, an incident response officer and members of our hazardous area response team (HART).

“We are assessing a number of people at the scene.”

They added that the incident was “ongoing” as of 1pm, and told MyLondon that multiple people were being treated for headaches.

The fire brigade – which led the response to the incident – was called a few minutes later, at 11.28am.

In a statement earlier, it explained: “A number of people complained of smelling chemicals and fire crews evacuated around 30 people from the school.

“Firefighters are carrying out a sweep of the building to try and detect any raised levels of chemicals.”

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson told Express.co.uk that police had attended to assist the other emergency services.

The fire brigade said that as of 12.58pm the incident had been stood down and that no elevated chemical levels had been found in the school.

Princess May Primary School sits just off Stoke Newington Road (A10), towards Dalston.
