Man in 80s riding mobility scooter stabbed to death in broad daylight attack

AN elderly man has been stabbed to death while riding a mobility scooter in broad daylight.

The pensioner, in his 80s, was out in Greenford, West London, when he was attacked shortly after 4pm today.

Emergency services rushed to Cayton Road and the man was found with stab wounds.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

No arrests have yet been made and cops are working to inform his next of kin.

A crime scene is in place with forensic teams pictured at the scene tonight as cops launched an urgent probe into the shocking attack.

Detective Chief Inspector Jim Eastwood from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command said: “My officers are working to understand what has happened to this man, and we need the public’s assistance.

“I’m asking for anyone with dash cam or cycle helmet footage to contact us if they were using the Western Avenue A40 Eastbound in the proximity of Cayton Road and Welland Gardens between 15:15hrs and 16:15hrs.

“The elderly victim, who was riding a mobility scooter, was in the area at the time. If you saw the victim, or captured anyone acting suspiciously in the area, it is imperative that you make contact.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward to shed light on the incident.

Chief Superintendent Sean Wilson, lead for policing in Ealing, added: “This is an awful incident that will understandably cause considerable alarm to people locally and across London. Our thoughts are with the elderly victim.

“We are supporting our colleagues in Specialist Crime as they work to understand what has happened and identify who is responsible for this horrific crime.

“The support of the public is crucial. Police and the community must work together to identify violent offenders and remove them from our streets.

“My officers will remain on scene. They are there to help and protect you – if you have information that you want to share please approach them and tell them what you know.”

Today’s attack comes amid a spate of violence in the capital.

Yesterday, three people including a teenage boy were shot in Brent, North West London.

Cops have launched a manhunt for the attacker after a 17-year-old boy and two men were gunned down.

Meanwhile, a 21-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a female was stabbed to death yesterday in Ealing, West London.

It comes after a woman in her 30s was raped in a horror attack by a stranger on a North London street in the early hours of the morning.

The rapist is still at large and police have today released details, including CCTV photos of a man they would like to speak to about the attack.
