Imminent Tottenham signing landing in London today, as medical timeframe revealed

Destiny Udogie is travelling to England on Sunday to undergo a medical so he can become a Tottenham Hotspur player, reports have revealed.

Tottenham recently reached an agreement to sign left wing-back Udogie from Udinese in Serie A. The plan is to send him immediately back to the Italian side on loan for the 2022-23 season. After that, he will get his chance to impress in north London.

Udogie updates have gone a bit quiet over the past week, prior to which their agreement to sign him had been revealed. But now, they are moving another step closer to confirming his arrival.

As reported by the Evening Standard, a medical is due for Udogie in the coming days. Fabrizio Romano has since confirmed that the teenager will land in London at around 8pm on Sunday.

After that, he can take his medical checks early next week. A five-year contract will be waiting for him, the first 12 months of which he will spend with Udinese.

Despite still being due to be part of their squad for this season, Udinese left Udogie out of their Serie A opener against AC Milan on Saturday. However, it was merely due to a muscle problem, which has forced him to train separately in recent days.

Hopefully, it will not be anything too concerning to scupper his move. Indeed, it seems it may have just been a precautionary measure.

Now, it is a matter of time before Udogie gets put through his paces by Tottenham’s medical staff before signing his contract and heading back to his country of birth.

It has also been confirmed by Romano that Udogie was always Spurs’ priority target for the long-term at left-back, ahead of Villarreal’s Pervis Estupinan, who instead has now been linked with Brighton by the Daily Mail. There, he could replace Chelsea new boy Marc Cucurella.

Destiny Udogie ready to develop for Tottenham future

It is Udogie who will get to enjoy a future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, though. Spurs are buying into his potential and will be hoping he can develop well before his integration into their ranks.

Last season, when he was on loan at Udinese from hometown team Hellas Verona, Udogie contributed five goals from 37 appearances. Now, he will have another season to add to his tallies in Udine.

Beyond then, it will be interesting to see what kind of player he can be for Tottenham. In a system like Antonio Conte’s, which places an emphasis on wing-backs, he should thrive. But doubts will linger about how long the head coach will be at the club.

Indeed, his contract is due to expire the day before Udogie would be officially back among the Tottenham ranks. Yet Conte could extend his stay, or another manager could give him a chance further down the line.
