Emergency services rushed to Highbury Fields, Islington, last night after reports of a stabbing. Officers found a young boy, believed to be just 15 years old, with stab wounds.

Members of the London Ambulance Service also rushed to the scene and treated the male.

He was then taken to hospital where he sadly died a short time later.

The incident took place at around 9pm.

No arrests have been made at this time.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “Enquiries are ongoing to inform next of kin.

“A crime scene has been put in place.

“There have been no arrests; enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.

“Homicide detectives from Specialist Crime have been informed.

The official Twitter page for Highbury Fields added that this was likely “to remain for days while murder investigation collects evidence”.

One local resident told the reporter: “I heard a lot of commotion. Shouting and running. Sounded like a lot of people.

“I saw boys running up the road, maybe four of them. I don’t know if they were involved or scared.”

Another added: “It doesn’t surprise me. There’s always activity on the field, especially in the early hours.

“Young people gathering and drinking. Usually lots of lads out.

“I’ve lived here for 36 years. I’ve noticed it’s got worse – you just have to be aware.”

London Assembly Member Caroline Russell this morning said her thoughts were with the family of the young boy who has been killed.

She wrote in a post on Twitter: “The Highbury councillors will be working with the Council as the police establish what happened last night.”
