Tate Commerce CEO Carmel Allen, who leads commercial activity at the commercial arm, has been appointed as Tate’s new Managing Director. Allen will take up the role on 1 September 2022. Allen has been Tate Commerce CEO since 2018, leading on the organisation’s publishing, retail, product development, image and licensing businesses.
Artist Céline Condorelli has been announced as the third annual Artist in Residence at the National Gallery. The French-Italian artist, who now lives and works in London, has been appointed as part of the Gallery’s new Modern and Contemporary Programme. Condorelli follows artists Rosalind Nashashiband Ali Cherri who served in 2019 and 2021 respectively.

Alistair Brown, currently Policy Manager at the Museums Association, has announced a new role as Head of Museums, Libraries and Archives Policy at the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Brown made the announcement on Twitter, and said “Can’t wait to get started and deliver for museums, libraries and archives across the UK.”
Emalee Beddoes-Davis, currently curator of modern & contemporary Art at Birmingham Museums Trust, has announced a new role as curator of visual arts at The Cheltenham Trust. Making the announcement on Twitter, Beddoes-Davis said: “I have learned so much from the people I’ve met and the amazing artists I’ve worked with in Birmingham. One of these things is the importance of belonging and community.”

Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP) has announced the first UK museum display of work by North American artist Daniel Arsham. Six of Arsham’s bronze sculptures will be shown outdoors in the 18th-century Formal Garden at YSP, which form Arsham’s retelling of the ancient marble statue of Aphrodite from the 1st century BCE. From 1 October 2022.

In the first of a new series of ‘Discover’ exhibitions to be staged in the National Gallery’s Sunley Room, ‘Discover Manet & Eva Gonzalès’ opens this autumn. It will be the first UK exhibition devised around the portrait of Eva Gonzalès (1870) by Édouard Manet. ‘Discover Manet & Eva Gonzalès’ runs from 21 October 2022 – 15 January 2023.
A new Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) funded exhibition takes a unique look at Industrial Age Britain through the lens of Leeds and the surrounding regions. ‘Living with Machines: Human Stories from the Industrial Age’ is inspired by a major research programme of the same name, which is intended to examine the human impact of industrial revolution. The exhibition runs at Leeds City Museum from now to 8 January 2023.
As part of the 18th edition of Edinburgh Art Festival, a 90ft long inflatable sculpture of E.coli by Bristol-based Luke Jerram has been suspended from the ceiling of the National Museum of Scotland’s Grand Gallery. The E.coli, which is 5 million times bigger than the real bacteria, is on display in Scotland for the first time.
