Arteta will deliver results at Arsenal, claims Edu

Arsenal have made significant additions this summer and club director Edu Gaspar is confident Arteta can deliver this season.

THE LOWDOWN: BUSY SUMMER

Arsenal technical director Edu Gaspar is confident that the club will build on from last season and Mikel Arteta will be equal to the task.

The Gunners missed out on a Champions League spot last term in disappointing fashion, losing out to fierce north London rivals Tottenham in the latter stages of the campaign.

To better their finish from last season, Arsenal have made significant additions, surpassing the 100m mark in incomings for the second summer in succession.

Once again, Arsenal are among the sides in Europe to have spent the most on summer transfers, bringing in Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fabio Vieira, Marquinhos and Matt Turner.

Admittedly, the Gunners look stronger and club director Edu claims Arteta has the best squad at his disposal since his tenure as Arsenal manager.

THE LATEST: EDU BACKS ARTETA

Edu is positive ahead of the new season and has backed Arteta to deliver positive results.

Asked if this was the strongest squad since his own arrival, Edu told the PA news agency: “Yes, of course. The intention is to be better every season.

“Your sense in terms of squad balance, in terms of quality of the players, in terms of almost everything.

“So I think so far we [are] doing quite well and I hope we will finish the transfer season the way we have planned it.

“First of all I always have in front of me (in his office) the squad – because I dream for the squad every day I sit in my chair, I’m seeing there I’m just working myself and how can we improve, how can you be better.”

Arsenal lost the first three games of last season to Brentford, Chelsea and Manchester City in successive defeats that left the Gunners bottom of the table.

Edu has stressed the importance of a positive start this time around and remains confident Arsenal will start on a winning note as they kickstart their Premier League campaign against Crystal Palace on Friday.

“I’m not saying we are better prepared, I think we are in a different situation right now. I think our pre-season was great.

“The strategy, our pre-season as well it was fantastic to play important games and to travel, it gives us a chance to start well.”

THE VERDICT: ARTETA MUST DELIVER

Arteta has been significantly backed in the summer window with decent signings to go with. Ahead of the new campaign, the Spaniard has no excuses for not delivering and all eyes will be on the north London outfit and how they fare this time around.
