£34m South American ‘would love move’ to the Emirates

Arsenal have potentially been boosted in their pursuit of Lucas Paqueta as the Lyon star ‘would love a Premier League move’ and a potential move to the Emirates Stadium is ‘one to watch’, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

The Gunners may have missed out on Champions League qualification, having finished fifth in the Premier League last season, but that has not stopped boss Mikel Arteta in his tracks and he is keen to lure Paqueta to north London.

What’s the latest news involving Paqueta?

According to French media outlet Media Foot, Arsenal have potentially been boosted in their bid to sign Paqueta as Lyon have slashed their asking price to £34million.

The report suggests the 33-cap Brazil international is keen to move onto pastures new and the Gunners are making determined efforts behind the scenes to reach an agreement with his current employers.

Romano has previously told GIVEMESPORT that Arsenal technical director Edu knows Paqueta well and has been in contact with his agent.

Edu has reportedly informed his fellow countryman that a formal offer will be tabled as the north Londoners look to up the ante ahead of the 2022/23 campaign getting underway next month.

But Arsenal are not Paqueta’s only suitors as Newcastle United and Italian giants Roma are also understood to have enquired about the attacking midfielder’s availability.

What has Fabrizio Romano said about Paqueta?

Romano understands Paqueta is desperate to seal a switch to the Premier League, potentially putting Arsenal and Newcastle ahead of Roma in the pecking order.

The transfer guru believes the Gunners are keen to win the race for the 24-year-old’s signature and a deal could be struck before the September 1 deadline.

Romano told GIVEMESPORT: “I think it is one to watch in the coming weeks because the player would love a Premier League move.

“The player feels that, after playing in Serie A with Milan and then in Ligue 1 with Lyon, it could be a good chance for him to move to the Premier League.

“Arsenal are working on different kinds of deals, but I think the player will try to find a solution in the Premier League and so this is why he’s one to watch in the coming weeks.”

Why is Paqueta of interest to Arsenal?

It is clear that Paqueta would add plenty of goals and creativity to Arsenal’s squad as, over the course of his club career, he has found the back of the net 35 times and recorded a further 21 assists.

An impressive 2021/22 campaign allowed the Brazilian to register an average match rating of 7.24, according to WhoScored, underlining his talent.

Paqueta is also calm in possession, with statistics showing he was in the 99th percentile for passes under pressure among attacking midfielders and wingers in Ligue 1 last season, so he could play a key role in helping Arteta’s charges to keep the ball for longer periods.
