Two arrested after drug raids in south London

Two people have been arrested after warrants were executed at three homes in south London this morning.

The properties were in Mayall Road in SE22 and Marcella Road and Ferry Mews in SW9.

Two people were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A and Class B drugs.

An imitation firearm was also found.

It comes following concerns from people living nearby about anti-social behaviour and drug dealing – and is part of a bid to crackdown on drug dealing and its associated violence.

Searches at the properties have continued throughout today.

Sergeant Jacob Obiorah, from the Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “Drugs cause misery for communities such as Angell Town and devastate lives, which is why the Met will continue to carry out proactive operations such as this to remove those dealing drugs from our streets.

“We know that a significant proportion of violence is inextricably linked to the supply of drugs.

“By removing those dealing drugs, we hope to prevent future acts of violence in the Angell Town and Lambeth area.

“However, we cannot tackle the problem alone, which is why I would urge people to share any information they have regarding drug dealing, exploitation, or violent crime in their area.

“We all have a responsibility to make Lambeth, and London, a safe place for everyone. Community intelligence can be used to great effect to not only detect crime, but also to prevent it as well.”

A Met Police spokesperson said: “Police have arrested two people following early-morning warrants in a bid to crackdown on drug dealing and its associated violence in a Lambeth neighbourhood.

“Officers from the Coldharbour and Herne Hill Safer Neighbourhood Team, with the assistance of the Met’s Territorial Support Group, executed warrants at three residential properties in Angell Town and Herne Hill this morning (Friday, July 22.)

“The warrants took place in Mayall Road, SE22, Marcella Road, SW9 and Ferry Mews, SW9.

“The proactive operation was carried out following concerns from the local community about anti-social behaviour and drug dealing in the area.

“As a result of the warrants, two people were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A and Class B drugs.

“They were taken to a south London police station where they remain in custody.

“In addition to the drugs, officers also seized an imitation firearm.

“Searches at the properties will continue throughout the day.

“If you do not want to speak to the police, then you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

“They never ask your name and they cannot trace your call, your IP address or the device you use.”
