Earlier this year, it was said that Antonio Conte held talks with Arturo Vidal about a move to Tottenham.
The experienced midfielder is now 35 years of age, so some may have doubted the legitimacy of these claims.
However, Conte has previously enjoyed great success with Vidal, and as we’ve seen in the signing of Ivan Perisic, the Italian may sometimes ignore a player’s age if he has enough trust in them.
Now, talk of the Chile international moving to north London could be about to intensify.
What’s the story?
Well, Inter Milan have now terminated Vidal’s contract, making him a free agent.
It comes despite the fact he made 40 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring two goals while also providing four assists.
Conte has previously worked with Vidal at Juventus as well as Inter Milan, winning the Serie A title three times in a row while in Turin, and again at the San Siro in 2021.
In total, the South American has made 141 appearances under the 52-year-old, scoring 36 goals while also providing 21 assists.
Tottenham must be quick if they want Arturo Vidal
If there is any truth to Spurs wanting Vidal, Conte and Fabio Paratici will need to act quickly.
According to many sources, the Chilean is heading to Flamengo, although the deal is not done just yet.
Therefore, Tottenham have a chance to hijack negotiations, and also a good chance of turning Vidal’s head given the fact some have said he wants to play under Conte again.
Of course, we wouldn’t expect him to get much game time in north London, although there are few players as decorated as Vidal still playing, so his experience in the dressing room would be invaluable.
Now he is officially a free agent, anything could happen, so be sure to keep an eye on his situation.
