102-goal star’s agent will ‘push’ for Stamford Bridge move

Chelsea have been identified as a potential destination for wantaway Manchester United attacker Cristiano Ronaldo and agent Jorge Mendes will ‘push’ for a move to Stamford Bridge ‘in the coming days’, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues have entered a new era, with Todd Boehly leading a £4.25billion takeover in May, and he could look to make Ronaldo a marquee signing ahead of his first season in west London.

What’s the latest news involving Ronaldo?

Ronaldo put clubs on red alert when it emerged at the weekend that he has told Manchester United that he wants to be allowed to depart Old Trafford if a suitable offer comes in before the September 1 transfer deadline.

The development came just a matter of days after it had been revealed that Boehly had held conversations with the Portuguese’s agent Mendes, with Chelsea hoping to discover whether a move to Stamford Bridge could be a possibility.

It is understood that the Blues are now considering a move despite Manchester United’s insistence that Ronaldo is not for sale.

The 37-year-old would reportedly be open to sealing a switch to west London, although Chelsea have yet to make a final decision on whether to head to Old Trafford with a formal offer.

Ronaldo, who did not return to pre-season training at Manchester United due to ‘family reasons’ on Monday, is willing to take a considerable pay cut having earned £500,000-per-week since returning to the Premier League.

What has Fabrizio Romano said about Ronaldo?

Bayern Munich and Napoli have also been named as potential new clubs for Ronaldo, but Romano believes Mendes will try to persuade Chelsea into signing his client.

Although the transfer guru understands the Blues are prioritising other targets, he feels a move for Ronaldo should not be ruled out.

Romano told GIVEMESPORT: “Chelsea are focusing on different things, so this is why it is still quiet at the moment.

“But I’m sure that Mendes will push and push again in the coming days, so I will keep the situation open for Cristiano.”

What would Ronaldo add to Chelsea’s squad?

Chelsea may have finished third in the Premier League last season, but they scored far less goals than champions Manchester City and second-placed Liverpool.

If the Blues want to close the gap, head coach Thomas Tuchel needs to add more firepower and Ronaldo could be the answer, having found the back of the net 102 times over the course of two spells in the English top flight.

The 189-cap Portugal international is a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, while he has also clinched silverware with every club he has played for, so there is no doubt that he would be an asset to Chelsea.
