Man Utd make ‘£300k-a-week offer’ to Premier League star at Old Trafford

Manchester United have offered transfer target Christian Eriksen ‘a good package’ to join the club, according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.

The Red Devils are eager to snap up the 30-year-old, who is available on a free transfer following the expiration of his short-term contract with Brentford last month.

What is the latest news involving Eriksen?

Eriksen’s return to football was one of the feel-good stories of 2021/22 following his distressing cardiac arrest on the pitch during Denmark’s Euro 2020 campaign last summer.

The playmaker somehow got close to reaching the peak of his powers once again after Brentford handed him a six-month deal in January, registering one goal and four assists in 11 Premier League matches.

And Eriksen’s impressive showings for the west London outfit have sparked a race for his signature, with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham and Newcastle United all being credited with an interest.

However, Sky Sports recently revealed that the experienced star is set to choose between Manchester United and Brentford as he contemplated his next move.

Eriksen spent three-and-a-half years at Dutch giants Ajax at the beginning of his career and new United boss Erik ten Hag appears to be targeting players who have previously turned out for the club and are familiar with his style of play.

What has Bridge said about Eriksen?

Bridge has informed GiveMeSport that the Old Trafford outfit have offered Eriksen ‘just under £300,000-a-week’ to join Ten Hag’s revolution.

He told GMS: “Manchester United have offered him a good package, just under £300,000-a-week, I think.

“So, does he want to stay in London? Or does he want to go and play for Erik ten Hag and a couple of ex-Ajax teammates? I mean, he’d be a great signing wherever he goes.”

Would Eriksen be a good signing?

Eriksen established himself as one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe prior to his cardiac arrest, registering 109 goals and 158 assists in 528 senior club appearances.

And the Denmark international showed he is capable of reaching those levels once more while in a Brentford shirt, with Thomas Frank labelling him “world-class” before he put up some impressive underlying numbers.

As per FBref, he has ranked in the 99th percentile for expected assists and shot-creating actions, the 97th for total shots, 93rd for progressive passes and 85th for non-penalty expected goals compared to his positional peers over the last year.

Due to his age, it’s debatable whether Eriksen fits the profile of player that Ten Hag should be targeting, but on a free transfer, it’s perhaps a risk-free signing that United feel they can’t afford to miss.
