THE MET Office has warned Brits of a weekend washout – but it will make way for a 30C Azores heatwave in just days.
There will be an “unsettled weekend of sunny spells and scattered showers, occasionally heavy, mainly in the north and west” over the next few days.
But the damp weather is likely to make way for a scorching heatwave by the end of next week, with temperatures set to hit at least 30C .
Met Office meteorologist Alex Deakin said: “Friday it’s another fairly messy day, we are going to start with cloud and rain over north east England and that will spread into north east Scotland and up across the northern isles.
“Then elsewhere, while it may be a dry start to Friday certainly by mid morning heavy showers are going to be breaking out once more.
“Subtle difference on Friday, little more of a breeze, the showers will not be quite as slow-moving but again they may be heavy and thundery and may cause some disruption, certainly a lot of spray and surface water on the roads particularly over eastern England and north east Scotland by the afternoon.
“Further west the showers do tend to fade away so things looking a bit drier come the afternoon for Wales, south west England, western parts of Scotland and for a time across Northern Ireland but no, another band of rain is approaching here.
“Temperature wise again we are around about or a touch below average for the time of year, the first of July only high teens in many places.”

“With high pressure potentially becoming established to the south of the UK but likely extending to all areas at times.”
He went on to say: “Temperatures will increase and are likely to be above average at times.”

Red-hot weather looks likely next month, with William Hill odds-on at 4/5 for temperatures in July to peak at between 30-34c.
It looks very possible at 10/11 for the thermometer to rise above the current 2022 high of 32.4c recorded in June, while William Hill makes it 7/2 for the UK to bask in temperatures of 35c or more and 25/1 for the British record of 38.7c to be broken.
William Hill spokesperson, Tony Kenny, said: “The Great British Summer is not very predictable, but it looks as though some hot weather could waft its way into July and we’re now odds-on for temperatures to soar above the 30c mark.
“June saw an unusually high temperature of 32.4c, but we think there are hotter days to come and make it 10/11 for the 2022 record to be set in July.”

Forecasters say tomorrow will also be “another day of sunny spells and showers, although some more persistent rain possible in northeast Scotland in the morning, then over Northern Ireland later”.
The weekend is also expected to be unsettled with sunny spells and scattered showers. Rainfall will occasionally be heavy, mainly in the north and west.
But temperatures are expected to soar in the coming weeks to possible highs of 35C.
And the hotter weather is set to arrive in time for the school holidays.
Most schools in England and Wales will be splitting up for the summer holidays by July 22.

It comes after the Met Office issued a yellow warning for rain for the majority of Scotland on Tuesday.
