Father’s Day is a time to show appreciation and love to the men in our lives – it’s also a great time to honour the positive influence fathers have in society.
And what better way to celebrate Father’s Day than to name a bunch of male celebrities from the south east London boroughs.
After skimming through a variety of Wikipedia posts, autobiographies, and fan accounts, we found a surprisingly long list of celebrity fathers from south east London.
We have put together five famous fathers that have come from south east London, and some of them may surprise you.
Rio Ferdinand, Peckham
According to southlondonclub.co.uk, Rio Ferdinand was born at King’s College Hospital and grew up on the Friary Council Estate in Peckham.
His incredible football career included playing as a centre-back for West Ham United, Bournemouth, Leeds United and Manchester United.
Ferdinand made his first team debut in 1996, aged 17, and is one of the most famous defenders in English football.
David Haye, Bermondsey
British former professional boxer, David Haye, was born on October 13, 1980, in Bermondsey and now resides in Beckenham.
Haye is said to have grown up near the town houses of the Peabody estate and perfected his boxing at the Fitzroy Lodge Boxing Club in Lambeth.
Haye became a professional boxer at the age of 22 and went on to become a cruiserweight champion in 2008 – winning three of four major world titles.
Jude Law, Greenwich
One of the biggest British film stars around today, Lewisham-born Law has starred in films ranging from The Talented Mr Ripley and Closer to Sherlock Holmes and Road to Perdition.
He has also worked with such directors as Kenneth Brannagh, Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese.
Law has five children – Iris Law, Raff Law, Rudy Law, Sophia Law, and Ada Law.
Ian Wright, Woolwich Legendary Arsenal player Ian Wright MBE was born in Woolwich and grew up in the south east London towns, Brockley, and Crofton Park, according to Lifeblogger.com.
Wright played as a forward for Arsenal from 1991 to 1998 and then West Ham from 1998 until 2000.
The father-of-five currently shares his expertise for football as a pundit for BBC Sport and ITV Sport.
Bill Wyman, Sydenham William George Wyman is an English musician and best known as the bassists for the rock and roll band, the Rolling Stones.
Wyman was born in Lewisham, Kent in the late 1930’s and entered the world of music by learning to play the organ with his father.
In the late 60’s, Wyman auditioned to be the bassist for the Rolling Stones and joined the band – creating legendary music hits that are still listened to today.
