Tottenham hold shock talks as agent reveals huge Man Utd price tag

Tottenham have reportedly held talks with Marcus Rashford and his representatives over a shock move to north London this summer – but Manchester United’s prohibitive price tag means any transfer this summer looks unlikely.

The 24-year-old attacker has just drawn the curtain on something of a season to forget. He managed just five goals and two assists as he struggled to recapture the form for which he had made his name. Indeed, he was in and out of the United side as he struggled to convince Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and then Ralf Rangnick he was worthy of a start.

That incredible loss of form – together with that of many of his teammates – saw United labour to a sixth-placed finish. For Rashford, it also saw him lose his place in the England squad.

But closer to home, there were reports that Rashford feared for his long-term future at Old Trafford. To that end, he reportedly held talks with Rangnick to see whether he was still wanted or not.

However, it seems Rashford and his agents have taken matters into their own hands if reports are to be believed. Italian super-agent Roberto De Fanti, whose clients include Spurs defender Japhet Tanganga, claims Rashford’s advisors have spoken with Tottenham over a sensational move.

A transfer though this summer looks highly unlikely for the player with United making clear their wish to keep him. And with his deal expiring in 2023 (United do have an option to extend that to 2024), they are reported to have placed a huge asking fee on his head.

Massive price tag

To that end, De Fanti claims Manchester United are seeking between £70m – £80m for the forward.

That’s a fee well beyond what Tottenham are willing to pay, though the picture could change come summer 2023.

“I can also confirm that there have been some discussions very recently between the player’s camp and Tottenham Hotspur,” De Fanti told Caught Offside. “The London club feel negotiating a deal for Rashford is virtually impossible though. So that transfer no longer seems an option.”

De Fanti went on to explain that interest in Rashford remains as high as ever despite his recent difficulties. As such, clubs in Italy and Spain are also reportedly keeping tabs on his situation with regards a future move.

However, with United placing a huge fee on him now, it is seen as a very strong message that the player remains very much a part of their plans.

Huge season awaits Marcus Rashford

The next four or five months are huge in the future of Marcus Rashford. A change of manager – and one who hopefully believes in him – can help him rediscover his very best form. And getting him firing on all cylinders again will surely be one of Ten Hag’s priorities going forwards.

The United manager will unlikely spend money on multiple players; instead working with – and improving – the ones he has at his disposal.

However, all is not lost for the player. A good a start to the season can see the return of the Rashford that United fans know and love.

And that could yet see the player reclaim his place in the World Cup squad ahead of Qatar 2020.

Marcus Rashford a target for Bayern Munich?

And with his contract situation reaching a critical point, a return to form can see him earn an extention.

However, continue as his 2021/22 season went, then an exit next summer looks increasingly likely for the 93-goal striker.

Bayern Munich are among those also reportedly keen, with a report last month revealing the drastic steps Rashford is taking to impress his new manager.
