Rapper Hypo stabbed to death at East London party – News

Grime artist Hypo has died after being stabbed at a party in Woodford Green, East London, in the early hours of Friday morning.

Lamar Jackson, known as Hypo, was allegedly attacked at an event that took place over the Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend.

Paramedics were called to Chigwell Road, Woodford Green, at 12:10 AM on Friday morning after a fight broke out.

They found Lamar Jackson, aged 39, with stab wounds. He died just after midnight on June 3 at Ashton Town Playing Fields and was pronounced dead on the scene by medical professionals.

A post-mortem examination found that Jackson died from a “sharp force trauma to the chest”. His family were informed of the situation, the Met says.

The Hackney rapper had filmed himself on the way to the event earlier in the evening and posted it to his Instagram story. He had also posted content of himself dancing with other attendees on a marquee.

Since his death, Laurie John-Phillip, aged 32 from Enfield, has been charged with murder and possession of a bladed object.

John-Phillip is due to appeared at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

As Hypo, Jackson released an array of tracks including ‘Flex on My X’, ‘First Night’ and ‘No L’s’. He also released ‘Run These Streets’ with Jamaican DJ Popcaan.

He was also a partner at Hard Copy, a label where Jamal Edwards also worked.

He dated singer Emeli Sandé for around one year – they split in 2017. Jackson is said to have celebrated his birthday with his twin sister this week.

Friends and fans have paid tribute on social media. Rapper Genesis Elijah posted a poem.
