Matt Hancock has been accused of pretending to be on the phone when members of the public spotted him out and about in West London. A video, posted on TikTok, shows the former Health Secretary walking down Lower Sloane Street past the Rose & Crown pub in Chelsea.
He appears to be on the phone as the person filming says: “Man like Matt Hancock, yeah! My guy. Boris Johnson and that.” Hancock smiles and waves in response, but walks on. The video has so far gained 29,000 likes and the comments quickly filled with people claiming the 43-year-old was pretending to be on the phone after viewers spotted that his phone screen was blank as he walked past.
One said: “He’s not on the phone.” Another agreed: “Phone is turned off ahahahaha,” while a third added: “100% his phone is off.”

Others stood up for the MP for West Suffolk, with one saying: “Most phones turn the screen off when you hold it to your ear.”
Hancock attended the Chelsea Flower Show on Wednesday, May 25 with his girlfriend Gina Coladangelo. Hancock left his wife Martha in June last year and stepped down as Health Secretary after pictures showing him kissing Gina, a former non-executive director of the Department for Health and Social Care, in his office during lockdown were revealed. The 43-year-old had been married to his wife for 15 years and they have three children together. The kiss happened at a time when strict Covid and social distancing rules were in place.
