Palace boss Vieira addresses Kouyate’s deleted Instagram post – South London News

Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira says that he will speak to Cheikhou Kouyate if the Instagram post with Idrissa Gueye was in support of the PSG midfielder refusing to wear the rainbow colours, writes Edmund Brack.

Gueye, who plays with Kouyate for Senegal, missed PSG’s 4-0 win against Montpellier, with manager Mauricio Pochettino only confirming that his absence was due to “personal reasons.”

Kouyate posted on Instagram a photo with Gueye, which read “a real man” and added “we wholeheartedly support you, brother”. The post has since been deleted.

Blackpool’s 17-year-old Jake Daniels became the first footballer in the UK for more than 30 years to come out openly as gay this week. He is only the second known gay player in the football world.

When asked when he would speak with Kouyate, Vieira said: “I don’t know. It’s not something that I am going to plan.

“If he is in the building, I may speak to him. If he went home, I may have to him tomorrow [Thursday] while we are travelling. It will be a normal conversation, trying to understand – to speak to him to see what that message means.

“The facts are massively important, especially in the world that we are living in at the moment.

“Before expressing ourselves, we need to have the full information and the facts. That will allow us to be more clear to answer that question.

“Myself, I do not support any kind of discrimination – any kind of it. If I have to wear the shirt, if I have to wear the armband, I personally will do it.”

Also nominated for the award are James McAtee (Manchester City), Conor Bradley (Liverpool), Sonny Hilton (Fulham), Dilan Markanday (Tottenham Hotspur), Kazeem Olaigbe (Southampton), Tom Dickson-Peters and Abu Kamara (both Norwich City).
