Essex: Double decker bus crashes into tree in Romford

Up to 15 people have been injured in a bus crash in East London this afternoon.

Police raced to the scene following reports of a bus colliding with a wall at about 1.55pm in Romford.

The London Ambulance Service also attended and said they treated up to 15 casualties.

A spokesperson from the London Ambulance Service confirmed five people have been taken to hospital for their injuries, MyLondon reports.

A further one went to the hospital themselves, and the remaining nine were checked over and discharged at the scene.

Other images show the front windscreen smashed in with tree branches going through the broken glass.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Police were called at 13:55hrs on Wednesday, 18 May to reports of a bus in collision with a wall at Main Road, Romford.

“Officers and London Ambulance Service [LAS] attended.

At the scene, a bus had left the road and collided with a perimeter wall.

“There are believed to be 10-15 casualties – their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. We await further updates.

“Cordons and closures remain in place and local traffic delays are expected. Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident but has not yet spoken with police should call 101 or Tweet @MetCC quoting 4159/18MAY.”

Emergency services rushed to Romford this afternoon after a bus crashed into a building in a busy street

A London Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 1.55pm today (18 May) to reports of a road traffic collision on Main Road, Romford.”

“We sent three ambulance crews, a paramedic in a response car, an incident response officer, an advanced paramedic, and members of our hazardous area response team (HART), with the first of our medics arriving within six minutes.”

“We treated 15 patients at the scene. We took five of these patients to hospital, and one further patient also made their own way to hospital. The remaining nine patients were checked over and discharged at the scene.”
