A number of roads have been closed this afternoon after police were called to reports of a ‘suspicious vehicle’ near Westminster Abbey. Officers from the Met say they are in the vicinity of the church dealing with the ongoing incident. Eyewitnesses are also reporting two ‘controlled explosions’ took place at the incident.
The vehicle is believed to be in Broad Sanctuary, and the road is closed by the junction with Great Smith Street near the church, according to Transport for London. Bridge Street is closed westbound at Victoria Embankment, Whitehall is closed at Trafalgar Square and diverted traffic is slow in Lambeth Place Road, Horseferry Road and on the approaches to Trafalgar Square and Pall Mall, also according to TfL.
