Woman found dead in car with ‘hazardous chemicals’ in quiet South London road

A woman has been found dead in a car on a quiet road in Bromley. Emergency services rushed to the scene in Glovers Close, Biggin Hill shortly after 1pm on Saturday (May 8), where they discovered her body.

Local residents reported that a police cordon was in place at the scene for several hours, while people could be seen wearing blue hazmat suits. The police confirmed that specialist support was requested after officers suspected that hazardous chemicals were present inside the car.

The quiet street, situated on the fringes of Bromley and Kent just a stone’s throw away from Biggin Hill Airport, was swarmed by emergency services, with one eyewitness saying that a fire engine, a number of police cars and three ambulances attended the incident. Investigations are ongoing, while police officers are working to identify the woman so that her family can be informed.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police told MyLondon : “Officers are working with emergency service partners following the discovery of a body in a car in Glovers Close, Biggin Hill at 1.16pm on Saturday, May 7. Specialist support was requested after hazardous chemicals were suspected to be inside the vehicle. There is no danger to the wider public. Officers are working to identify the deceased – believed to be an adult female – and inform next of kin.

“The death is being treated as unexplained but is not thought to be suspicious. A file will be prepared for the Coroner. One resident saw one fire engine, two ambulances, a police car and three ambulance incident response units at the scene.”

The London Ambulance Service has been contacted for more information, while the Metropolitan Police has been approached for an update.
