Driver in fatal crash Sunday identified as former Western ringette coach

Police have identified the driver of a car who died in a crash with a delivery truck in Elgin County on Sunday.

Kerry Box, 61, of London died at the scene, Elgin OPP said Tuesday. A passenger in the car and the delivery truck driver were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Box is a former ringette coach at Western University and was well known in the ringette community, current head coach Ellen McClure said.

“He was always happy to help out and gave everyone a smile whenever he saw them,” she said in an email.

The crash happened on Currie Road and Thamesview Line, northwest of Dutton, at about 12:45 p.m., police said.

Police said the investigation into the crash continues.
