A dozen men have been charged with over 20 offences following a police crackdown on the supply of drugs in East London this week. Detectives from the Central East area’s Gangs Taskforce executed warrants at 13 residential addresses in the East of the city yesterday (Wednesday, April 27) and made 15 arrests.

In total 12 men between the ages of 20 and 35 were charged following the raids, with 21 offences between them and all will appear in front of Westminster Magistrates’ Court today (April 28).

The arrests are part of the wider Met Police Operation Continuum, which the Met describes as “an intelligence-led, phased operation, established in response to ongoing reports of drug dealing, drug use and associated criminality in Tower Hamlets and Hackney.”

Detective Chief Inspector Sean Lyons, from the Central East area, said: “Organised crime groups are strongly linked to violence and a significant driver to drugs related violence that we see cause devastation in our communities.

“We are working with our partners to support displaced drug users and provide the assistance and treatment they need. Working closely with local authorities means we are tackling violence from all angles and making our communities safer.

“We will continue work with communities and partners, balancing the need for diversion and support with enforcement.”
