Jamie Redknapp makes huge Arsenal, Tottenham and Man United claim on top four race

Former Tottenham player Jamie Redknapp has claimed that the top four race is only between Arsenal and Spurs. It comes after the Gunners beat Manchester United, creating a six point gap between the two sides.

Mikel Arteta and his side returned from the international break in slow fashion, losing their first three games to Crystal Palace, Brighton and Southampton. As for their North London rivals, the Lilywhites took full advantage and moved into fourth.

However, the race for Champions League qualification took another twist as Arsenal registered wins over Chelsea and United, while Antonio Conte ’s men drew 0-0 against Brentford.

Despite the win, Arteta claimed that things change so quickly, as they have done in the past week: “I don’t know this changes so quickly. My belief is that we are going to give it a real go, we can win football matches but the margins are going to be really small and we have to be very aware of that. Winning and losing in this league and where we are today is defined by the small margins and we have to take the game where we want to win in the 95 minutes.”

However, even if the Arsenal boss didn’t want to claim that it is the two North London clubs vying for the last Champions League place, former Spurs player Redknapp did. Speaking on Sky Sports about the race for fourth, he said: “I think you can write off Manchester United, they are right out of the equation.

“I think it is between Arsenal and Tottenham but I think this is more than just a top four place, it is about the history, there is no love lost between the two teams and it could actually elevate the football club (Arsenal) with their fine future players. Getting in that top four is where you want to be in terms of money and everything that goes with it, but it feels a little bit more now because it is between Tottenham and Arsenal.”

If the past week has shown anything, it’s how quickly things can change in football. With a number of games and the derby match still to come, it remains to be seen exactly how this race will end.
