London transport live: Easter weekend travel updates including London Underground part closures, M25 traffic, and train stations to avoid

People travelling around London should expect some disruption to their journeys this weekend, as Transport for London (TfL) and other travel companies prepare for a number of closures across the Easter Weekend for maintenance and other work.

London Euston will be completely closed from until Easter Monday (Friday, April 15 to Monday, April 18), for maintenance work to replace track and improve switches and crossings.

Most of the central section of the Northern Line, including the new branch line running to Battersea Power Station, will be closed today (April 16).

The Northern line will be shut between Charing Cross, Battersea Power Station and Stockwell from April 15 to 16, and its Bank branch will be closed between Euston and Moorgate, as test trains are being run along the new section of the line at Bank for the first time.

There will be no Piccadilly line trains running to and from Heathrow Airport over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend either.

The line will be closed between Acton Town and Heathrow, and Rayners Lane and Uxbridge, from Friday to Monday, due to engineering work on the tracks and drains forming part of the Piccadilly Line upgrade.

There will be no service at all on the Hammersmith and City line for all of the four-day weekend, due to engineering work on the tracks.

The District Line will be closed between Tower Hill and West Ham, and from Earl’s Court to Kensington (Olympia) for the entire four-day Easter weekend so that the temporary ticket hall at Whitechapel can be removed.

Between Turnham Green and Richmond will also be closed on Easter Sunday (April 17) for engineering work by Network Rail.

Andy Lord, TfL’s chief operating officer, has advised people to check their journeys.

He said: “I’d encourage customers to check before they travel as there are some closures, but the majority of the public transport network will be open over the Easter weekend, meaning people can enjoy everything the capital has to offer.”
